SETTING & LOCAL AREA
Atherstone Farm Cottage is part of an old grade II listed farm that has been part of the Dillington Estate since at least 1725. The cottage is found at one end of the farmhouse – with the other half of the house also available to rent as a separate 4 bed house. The two are joined through lockable doors on the ground floor for the convenience of any groups renting both.
The farm is in the tiny hamlet of Atherstone, which is surrounded by fields and woods that are accessible on foot and bicycle through the myriad of local country lanes and footpaths.
Nearby there are several pubs, some within walking distance – like the Barrington Boar – others a little further, but worth cycling or driving to, such as the Dinnington Docks or Lord Poulett Arms.
Barrington House, a National Trust house with gardens open to the public, is nearby, as is Dillington House. The Dennis Chinaworks in Shepton Beauchamp are also very close and worth a visit, for the tea rooms as much as anything else.
There are several local cider producers whose orchards and presses are worth seeing, Perry’s Cider in Dowlish Wake being one, and Julian Temperley’s cider and cider brandy distillery over at Burrow Hill another.
A little further away the beach at Lyme Regis and walks along the Jurassic coastline are 40mins or so to the South, and the Hauser and Wirth gallery near Bruton is 40 mins or so to the East.
ACCESS
The Dillington Estate is very easily accessed by car just off the A303, and the cottage has private car parking space for two cars.
The train stations of Crewkerne (15 min drive), Castle Cary and Taunton (30 mins each) are all nearby..
Keys can be left at the house, so you can check-in at your convenience and the staff at the Dillington Estate are available to help with anything unexpected.

“One of our best stays, loved staying at Ewen’s Home no complaints all was well thought out for guests” – Kathleen
“Great Support from our Host Ewen and Wendy, nice and clean property, good location for a trip to England!” – Michael
“The cottage is so beautiful and in a peaceful location. It has loads of space and everything you need to make your stay comfortable. The service and communication from the host, Ewen, was exceptional and I would highly recommend his place” – Naomi
“We stayed for 10 days over the school Easter break with our 7 year old twins.
The property is one of the best Airbnb experiences we have had. Everything you need to settle in quickly and “set up home” was provided along with welcome extras like milk, bread and jams. In addition there was the lovely touch of an Easter egg and a vase of daffodils.
Provisions which we have found lacking in other properties were all there including washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, ample tea towels, brand new kitchen cloths, washing machine tablets and loads of kindling and firewood which was very much appreciated given the weather at the time.
The cottage was easily heated with the radiators and extra cosy at night with the fire.
The decor is just beautiful especially the master bath which is as fantastic as it looks in the photos.
The only problem we encountered was very slow WiFi which made the smart TV difficult to use. Perhaps this is a function of the location.
We were unlucky with the weather over Easter however I can imagine this to be a lovely place to stay in summer where the garden and its outdoor seating could be used. Many thanks to Ewen for being such an excellent host” – Samantha and Hani
“Everything about the cottage exceeded our expectations..we would not hesitate to return” – Dawn
“An extra special place for that special occasion. Everything is thought about and provided even those extra things you had not considered. The cycling and walking are excellent so close to the house” – Pauline

“Amazing! Dream cottage….. No room for improvement! Need I say more….???” – Riki
“What a fabulous, luxurious and stylish place to stay! It was very warm and cosy, with extremely comfortable beds, and lots thoughtful little touches. The cottage is in a quiet, rural location and made a great base for exploring the countryside. We would definitely stay again. Thanks, Ewen” – Caroline
“Lovely cottage” – Joanna
“This property is simply fantastic. The building itself is a delight…all stone built, with a thatched roof, flagstone flooring, inglenook fireplace and lovely windows. It has been furnished and kitted out to an exceedingly high specification, and could easily grace the pages of ‘Country Living’ magazine. The guest experience is superior to that of many four or five star hotels. There is plenty of space, the amenities are excellent and there are wonderful touches such as a basket on arrival with bread, milk, biscuits, cake, and lovely local produce. Ewen is the perfect host and communicates very clearly and punctually. We also found him to be very accommodating and flexible about check-in and check-out. Surely, this has to be one of the best Airbnb properties in the UK” – Roy
