OVERVIEW
Dillington Farmhouse is the newest luxury holiday cottage on the Dillington Estate, beautifully renovated to offer relaxed elegance in a truly special rural setting. The house retains many of its original character features, including grand stone fireplaces, exposed wooden beams and blue lias stone floors, thoughtfully paired with contemporary comforts throughout.
With nine bedrooms sleeping up to 18 guests, the farmhouse is ideal for larger gatherings — whether a family celebration, a weekend with friends or a peaceful countryside escape. Surrounded by open parkland, yet close to excellent pubs, local attractions and the market town of Ilminster, it offers the perfect balance of seclusion and convenience.
SPACIOUS LIVING AND DINING
At the heart of the house is a generously proportioned kitchen, designed for both everyday cooking and entertaining. It features a large island, double ovens and an American-style fridge freezer, and is fully equipped with ample crockery, glassware and cooking equipment to cater comfortably for the whole house.
The elegant dining room seats 18 guests around a grand mahogany table, making it ideal for shared meals and celebrations. In the warmer months, outdoor seating for 18 allows guests to dine and relax outside.
The living spaces are warm and inviting, with cosy log burners and underfloor heating throughout — perfect for unwinding after a long walk across the surrounding fields.
BEDROOMS AND COMFORT
Dillington Farmhouse has nine beautifully appointed en-suite bedrooms, sleeping up to 18 guests in total.
Most rooms feature flexible zip-and-link beds, allowing them to be arranged as either twin singles or super-king doubles. One bedroom is configured as twin singles only. Each room has its own individual character, while all share the same high standard of comfort, including deep, luxurious mattresses, 400 thread count cotton bedding, indulgent mattress toppers and fluffy towels and bathrobes.
Travel cots and highchairs are available on request for younger guests.
SETTING AND LOCAL AREA
Set within the parklands surrounding Dillington House, the farmhouse offers guests complete privacy along with access to the wider estate grounds and its own garden.
Several excellent pubs are close by, some within walking distance — including the popular Barrington Boar — while others, such as the Dinnington Docks and the Lord Poulett Arms, are a short cycle or drive away and well worth the journey.
Nearby attractions include Barrington Court (National Trust), Dillington House itself, and the Dennis Chinaworks in Shepton Beauchamp, renowned for its ceramics and welcoming tea rooms. Local cider producers abound, with Perry’s Cider in Dowlish Wake and Julian Temperley’s cider and brandy distillery at Burrow Hill both offering memorable visits.
For day trips further afield, the Jurassic Coast and beaches at Lyme Regis are around 40 minutes to the south, while the Hauser & Wirth gallery near Bruton lies approximately 40 minutes to the east.
ACCESS AND ARRIVAL
The Dillington Estate is easily reached by car, just off the A303, with private parking for four to five cars at the house.
Nearby train stations include Crewkerne (15 minutes’ drive), and Castle Cary and Taunton (both around 30 minutes).
Guests can enjoy flexible, self-check-in with keys left at the property, and the Dillington Estate team is on hand should any assistance be needed during your stay.
“The perfect space for a family gathering. We spent a wonderful family christmas here. The house was warm and cosy, spacious enough for all of us, and despite the usual chaos of a family christmas with young grandchildren it somehow felt like a relaxing and indulgent holiday. Thank you!”
